’the inspiration for this family of table & floor lights comes from signage found alongside the roads...the idea was to bring rough and functional typologies into the domestic environment, for indoor use,’ explains sylvain willenz. his usual starting point for a design is the material, but landmarks began with an idea, sketch, & reference. he developed the concept into a fun domestic product that reflects perfect proportions, colors, & lines – presenting a strong form. these engaging, graphic forms have been reworked in powder-coated steel with an opal acrylic diffuser.
sylvain willenz is one of belgium’s leading young designers. he graduated from the royal college of art in 2003 & set up his studio in brussels in 2004. winner of the interieur kortrijk award in 2002 and nominated brussels’ most promising designer in 2005, willenz’s work is inspired by archetypal objects that he re-interprets, giving them a slight twist yet maintaining their simplicity.
